Story Time: Lydia’s Legacy

Broomfield, CO

It isn’t just a closing. It’s a part of your life’s story.

I met Lydia a few years back when I helped her son and his wife find their first home. Fast forward to yesterday, we sat around the table in her assisted living facility with her sister to sign closing papers on her home of over 25 years. She lost her husband last year and it is time that she lives in a community. In an attempt to find her drivers license (which will soon be reduced to simply an ID), she pulled out this photo of her family arriving in the United States from Germany back in 1952. She shared with me this was her grandma, mom, dad and siblings “and there were 4 more kids after that, and none of us were smiling”.

I made sure to take time and be with her yesterday. Not rush off to another appointment, not think about signatures or deadlines…just be.

It was a great reminder that NONE of us are getting out of here alive. Enjoy the journey and leave a Legacy.

I am grateful, Lydia. Grateful for the reminder. Grateful to have met you and grateful to have been an ever so small part of your story and legacy.
